Indications for useAcute and chronic infections of the kidneys and urinary tract caused by microorganisms sensitive to it (cystitis, pyelonephritis, urethritis, epididymitis, prostatitis), and also for the prevention of infections after kidney and urinary tract operations, for the prevention of infectious complications during diagnostic and therapeutic manipulations (catheterization , cystoscopy).
Dosage and administrationNitroxoline is taken orally during or after a meal. The daily dose for adults is 400 mg (100 mg 4 times a day). In severe cases, the daily dose can be increased to 600 - 800 mg. The highest daily intake for adults is 800 mg. The course of treatment is 2 - 3 weeks. The average daily dose of Nitroxoline for children from 3 to 5 years is 200 mg, for children over 5 years old - 200 - 400 mg. The daily dose is divided into 4 doses. Duration of treatment 2 to 3 weeks.
In chronic infections of the urinary tract, Nitroxoline can be prescribed by repeated courses within 2 weeks with a two-week break. In order to prevent infections after kidney and urinary tract operations, Nitroxoline is prescribed 100 mg per dose 4 times a day for 2 to 3 weeks.

ContraindicationsThe use of Nitroxoline is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to other drugs of the quinoline series, cataract, neuritis, polyneuritis, during pregnancy and lactation, in acute and chronic renal failure, liver failure, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency.
OverdoseThere have been no reports of cases of Nitroxoline overdose.
